An original Ben Abramson-era issue of the Baker Street Journal from 1948, the first and most collectible run of the Sherlockian periodical. One of only 13 numbers published before the magazine went dormant in 1949. [One line on the standout article or contributor from the contents page.]
DescriptionThe Baker Street Journal: An Irregular Quarterly of Sherlockiana
Volume 3, Number 2 ([month] 1948). Edgar W. Smith, Editor. Published for the Baker Street Irregulars, Inc. by Ben Abramson, New York. Printed wraps in canary yellow, [page count] pages.
Why it matters: The Old Series ran only 13 issues in four volumes (1946–1949) under bookseller Ben Abramson. His lavish production costs outran the subscriber base, and the BSI revived the Journal in 1950 as the New Series that still publishes today. Old Series issues are the foundation of the Sherlockian periodical tradition and are collected by BSI scion society members and completists.
