This card depicts Buffalo Meat, a Southern Cheyenne war leader held as a prisoner at Fort Marion, Florida (1875–1878) and a recognized Plains Indian ledger artist whose drawings survive in the Massachusetts Historical Society and Oklahoma Historical Society; he later became a deacon in Baptist mission work. A genuinely documented, historically significant named subject.
