Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible vintage 1960s leather elephant sculpture handcrafted by the renowned workshop DERU in Wiesbaden, Germany.
This iconic mid-century modern statement piece is meticulously constructed from a single continuous piece of premium vegetable-tanned leather using an incredible origami-style folding technique.
Features & Details:- Authenticity: Stamped clearly with the original "DERU GERMANY" blind hallmark pressed into the lower left foot.- Condition Profile: Excellent vintage condition. Unlike many models on the market that warp or lean over time, this piece has superb structural integrity and stands completely level and upright on its own.- Appearance: The leather features a gorgeous, uniform, amber-honey patina. The broad back area is completely smooth and unblemished, entirely free of any pinholes, tag punctures, or ink marks.- Minor Character: Shows very light, natural surface characteristics under the neck fold and minor organic mottling consistent with 60-year-old untreated hide. No deep cracks, split stitching, or dry rotting.
