EARLY Circa 1900–1920 Stegmaier Brewing Co Wilkes-Barre PA embossed crate:
$125.95
This antique Stegmaier Brewing Company wood crate from Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania is a rare and highly desirable example of early brewery packaging. Unlike typical crates that feature painted or stenciled lettering, this piece showcases raised embossed branding carved directly into the wood, reading Stegmaier Bro Co Wilkes Barre PA, making it a standout example of early advertising craftsmanship.
Founded in 1857, Stegmaier Brewing Company became one of the most prominent breweries in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and crates like this were used in the transport and distribution of beer during the early 20th century. The heavy wood construction, reinforced metal corner strapping, and cutout handles reflect a time when crates were built for durability and repeated industrial use. The embossed lettering suggests an earlier or higher-quality production method, likely circa 1900 to 1920, placing it in the pre-Prohibition era, which adds significant historical appeal.
With its rich aged patina, strong visual presence, and rare construction style, this crate is highly collectible for those interested in brewing history, Pennsylvania industrial artifacts, and antique advertising crates. It also serves as a functional display or storage piece with authentic character that cannot be replicated.
