See pictures for condition. I research all items on my page before selling and try to provide the best information / pictures possible. I DO NOT alter items in any way once they're in my possession in order to keep the piece's history as-is. As with all of my listings, please do your own research to confirm my findings. I just like to buy and sell cool things, learn the history of pieces, and get said item to the right person for it to be displayed for years to come. If you have any questions or need additional photos please let me know.

An absolutely gorgeous example of an original 1950's Gentex flight helmet! This, the US Navy Type H-3 flight helmet, was a pioneering protective helmet issued to Navy and Marine aviators for early jet operations, appearing in the early 1950s around the end of the Korean War following the H-2 flight helmet. Manufactured primarily by General Textile Mills (Gentex), this helmet features a fiberglass shell, radio earphones, and flight cap with received headphones with ear padding. This helmet is wearable in the current condition shown, as I couldn't help myself and ended up trying! It is a size medium.

The helmet appears to be in all-original condition. There is a small chip on the top of the helmet as shown. The wear is consistent with its age. Everything is there, with the exception of the exterior mic. The connection cord and microphone holder is on the helmet as shown. I could easily buy a microphone to complete this set, but as mentioned above, I do not alter pieces once they're in my possession and this will allow for the new owner to do what they please!

The helmet's snaps/buttons work as designed. The summer flight cap (made by Slote & Klein) is in amazing condition along with the helmet's liner.

The above is good enough, but this flight helmet is NAMED. Wow. I was able to find that the owner of this helmet was George F. Monesmith of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Monesmith enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Florida. After two years he was selected to go to flight school, where he earned his wings and officer's commission. Following his service, Monesmith became a civilian pilot. Fun fact - Monesmith built his own airplane from scratch, a four place aircraft, which he flew off his private airstrip at their farm. Sounds like a guy who would be fun to hang with!

This helmet will be fully insured, and rest assured, will be shipped/packaged appropriately! Thanks for your interest in this museum-quality piece!
