"Peace & Joy" (平安喜乐) — Original Manchu-Han Calligraphy by Yehenara Yulin
An original, one-of-a-kind calligraphy work in the rare Manchu-Han combined style (满汉合璧) — the flowing vertical lines of Manchu script paired with archaic Han seal characters on festive red xuan paper flecked with gold. The phrase 平安喜乐 ("peace, safety, and lasting joy") is one of the most beloved blessings in Chinese tradition, making this a meaningful housewarming, wedding, or Lunar New Year gift as well as a striking piece of wall art. Please note: this is an unmounted work (no framing or mounting included). About the Artist
Yehenara Yulin (叶赫那拉·煜麟) is a Beijing-born calligrapher of Manchu heritage (Bordered Blue Banner), a fifth-generation grand-nephew of Empress Dowager Cixi through her natal Yehenara clan. He is a member of the China Calligraphers Association, a guest professor at Tsinghua University's Academy of Fine Arts, a National First-Class Calligrapher, and one of the few practicing masters of Manchu-script calligraphy — a writing system known today to only a handful of living artists. His work was exhibited at the "Splendor of Ethnic Culture" Manchu-Han calligraphy exhibition in Macau (December 2022). Each piece is brushed, signed, and sealed by the artist personally — this listing ships direct from the artist's studio.
About Xuan Paper — Please Read Before Purchasing
This work is created on traditional handmade Chinese xuan paper (宣纸), the classic medium of Chinese calligraphy prized for its ink absorption, toughness, and longevity. Please note: natural surface wrinkles, gentle undulations, and minor crease marks are inherent characteristics of handmade xuan paper, and may also develop during storage and transport. They are not defects or damage. This is true of all authentic works on xuan paper. Traditional wet-mounting (装裱) by any framer familiar with Asian art, or long-term flat pressing, renders the surface completely smooth. By purchasing, you acknowledge these natural paper characteristics.
