These epauletts became regulation under the US Navy Uniform Regulations issued in 1883. They remained regulation until 1913. In that year the rank insignia and the Line or Staff devices were moved from the frog to the top of the strap section. The diameter of the bullion coils are 3/8" in diameter, which is correct for the ranks of Ensign LtJG LT, and Lt Commander, There are no maker's markings. There are no detechable defects on either the top and bottom sides. These eps are 100% original. There is a very slight difference in the pattern of the bullion embroidered oaks leaves. I listed these under "Spanish American War Items", because this roughly corresponds to the middle of the time period during which they were regulation.
