Up for sale is an incredibly crisp, authentic Art Nouveau sterling silver vesta case / match safe manufactured by the legendary silversmith firm Unger Brothers of Newark, New Jersey, circa 1902. The front of the case features their iconic and highly sought-after high-relief repousse design known to collectors as the "Wave" pattern. It depicts a beautiful nude water nymph floating gracefully among dramatic, swirling ocean waves. The detail remains remarkably sharp, deep, and well-defined. The reverse features an elegant, beautifully hand-engraved, interlocking script monogram with the initials WGW. The inner lip is clearly stamped with the official intertwined UB manufacturer logo alongside the text STERLING 925 FINE.
Condition:
Excellent untouched antique condition. This piece is being sold completely uncleaned and features a gorgeous, deep original dark patina/tarnish in the recessed areas. This natural oxidation provides an incredible 3D contrast that makes the high-relief artwork pop beautifully—a highly desirable state for serious silver collectors. The hinge remains perfectly tight, strong, and snaps shut securely with a satisfying pop. There are no heavy dents or deep scratches.
