Up for sale is a highly collectible and incredibly rare piece of UK Volkswagen club history. This 100% cotton tea towel was produced in 1990 by Merely Motoring in conjunction with the London & Thames Valley VWOC (Volkswagen Owners Club).
Measurements:
• Length: Approx. 31.5 inches (As shown via tape measure)
• Width: Approx. 20.5 inches (As shown via tape measure)
Why It Is Rare & Unique:
• Limited Regional Release: Rather than a mass-market factory release, this textile was commissioned exclusively for the London & Thames Valley VWOC (one of the largest and oldest regional VW clubs in the UK, established originally in 1968).
• The "Merely Motoring" Series: Merely Motoring was famous in the late 1980s and early 1990s for producing high-quality, specialized club merchandise in England (such as their famous 1987 Morris Minor series). Tracking down an unblemished 1990 Volkswagen edition today is exceptionally difficult.
• The Era-Spanning Graphics: The print features beautiful, hand-drawn style sepia/brown illustrations charting iconic air-cooled and early water-cooled legends:
• Classic VW Camper Bus
• VW Type 3 Notchback
• VW Beetle (featured center-stage in a retro beach & surf scene)
• Karmann Ghia
• Mk1 Golf GTI
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition with incredibly crisp text and line art. The fabric retains its structure well. It looks fantastic laid flat and would be perfect for framing as garage wall art, hanging in a retro kitchen, or displaying inside a vintage camper van!
