Great vintage condition but it is missing the pinback part that would hold it onto a garment. This can be replaced with another easily. It also has one tiny tarnish spot on the back. Vintage/pre-owned condition with visible age-related surface wear, patina and small marks consistent with use and storage. Rare Fakir Musafar Body Is the Door to Spirit collectible enamel pin / badge, featuring a portrait of the pioneering body-modification artist surrounded by his iconic phrase:
“FAKIR MUSAFAR — BODY IS THE DOOR TO SPIRIT.”
An unusual piece of material culture connected to Fakir Musafar (1930–2018), the legendary performance artist, photographer, body-modification pioneer and central figure in the Modern Primitives movement. Musafar’s work explored ritual, piercing, tattooing, suspension, body play, spirituality and the transformation of the physical body as a path toward altered consciousness and self-discovery.
The pin has an especially striking period underground aesthetic: black enamel-style detailing against aged gold tone, with Musafar’s portrait at the center surrounded by radiating lines and lettering. The reverse has a textured gold-tone surface with a traditional single-post construction.
