Rare Vintage Lot Senate Chamber Visitors Passes Washington DC LBJ Tower Casey TX:
$325.00
This is a remarkable collection of 15 official U.S. government visitor passes dated June 20, 1963 — just five months before Lyndon B. Johnson became President of the United States following the assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas.
The passes were arranged by Congressman Bob Casey (D-TX, Houston's 22nd District) for a Houston family — Mr. and Mrs. Jay P. and Kathryne Simpson and their two children — and document a single day's tour of Washington's most significant institutions.
Venues represented:
• U.S. House of Representatives
• Senate Chamber (Vice President's Row)
• Senate Chamber (Reserved Gallery)
• National Gallery of Art
• Library of Congress
• Supreme Court
• Voice of America Studios
• Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Signatures:
• Lyndon B. Johnson (3 passes) — signed as Vice President of the United States
• Sen. John G. Tower (3 passes) — Republican Senator from Texas
• Rep. Bob Casey (9 passes) — Democratic Congressman, Houston
Note on LBJ signatures: Buyer should be aware that VP-era LBJ signatures on routine visitor passes were commonly produced by autopen. These are offered as autopen signatures and priced accordingly. The Tower and Casey signatures appear to be hand-signed.
Provenance: Acquired at estate sale from the Simpson family, Houston, Texas.
Historical context: June 20, 1963 places this collection in one of American history's most charged moments. LBJ was Vice President, widely rumored to be dropped from the 1964 ticket. Tower was in his first term as the first Republican senator from Texas since Reconstruction. Bob Casey was a reliable Houston-district Democrat. Five months after this family's Washington visit, everything changed.
These documents are visually striking — colorful lithographed official passes with Capitol imagery, the date and visitor name added in period typography, and the signatures of three significant Texas political figures of the era.
A complete lot. Will not separate.
