Vintage Rasmus S. Midgett lifesaving commemorative medal honoring his heroic rescue of 10 survivors from the wrecked barkentine Priscilla off North Carolina’s Outer Banks on August 18, 1899. Midgett, a U.S. Life-Saving Service surfman, was awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal for his actions.Medal measures approx. 51mm (2") and weighs 2.0 oz. Gold/brass-colored appearance; documented examples are bronze, but exact metal composition has not been tested. This is not represented as Midgett’s original Gold Lifesaving Medal.Includes period informational cards describing the rescue plus a dated Dec. 17, 1979 Kitty Hawk, NC provenance note.
