Robert Welch for Old Hall — Stainless Steel Serving Set, 7 Pieces Mid-Century Modern, 18/8 Stainless Steel, Made in England
A seven-piece serving suite designed by Robert Welch for Old Hall, England, in 18/8 stainless steel. Old Hall tableware was the wedding-present china of 1960s and 70s Britain, and the Welch-designed pieces are the most sought-after of the range — restrained, functional modernist forms produced at the Old Hall Works, Bloxwich.
Provenance and marks:
The pieces carry the Old Hall / England / 18/8 Stainless Steel mark, several stamped DESIGNED BY R. WELCH, and the coffee pot and jug carry the UK Registered Design number REG. 879702 IN UK. Individual capacity and size markings include 2 PT (coffee pot), 8 ounce (sugar bowl), 5½ × 1¼ (small bowl), and pattern numbers 10 and 12 on the tray forms.
Included:
• Coffee pot, 2 pint, domed lid with strap handle — stamped 2 PT, Reg. 879702
• Cream jug — stamped Reg. 879702
• Open sugar bowl, 8 ounce • Small open bowl, 5½ × 1¼
• Large rectangular entrée / serving dish, pattern 12
• Two divided vegetable dishes with twin wells and flared corners, pattern 10
• Original period leaflet: "The care of Old Hall Stainless Steel Tableware" — the cover illustration shows this exact suite
Condition:
Good vintage condition consistent with age and use. 18/8 stainless throughout, sound with the expected fine surface scratches and scuffs from normal serving use — no dents, splits, cracks or repairs. Interior surfaces clean and bright. The care leaflet shows age-appropriate creasing and light marking, as photographed, and is complete.
