Supreme Magic – NUMBER CHOICE (1970s)
This is a rare close-up mentalism item from Supreme. It is a plastic hexagon dial, which looks very classy with numbers and detailed printed in gold. The prop uses the "Crazy Compass Principle" in a very clever way, which allows you to show that numbers aligned on the two sides of the dial all add to different totals. But then, when the spectator freely chooses an aligned pair, they add up to your known force number. The layout of the dial usesthe classic Crazy Compass rotational deception, allowing the performer to force a specific total while appearing to show multiple different outcomes.
This isan authentic Supreme Magic “Number Choice” prop from the mid tolate 1970s. This is a nice quality molded-plastic prop with gold-printedgeometric number arrays, not just a laminated board & silk screened prop which is frequently found with Supreme props of the era.
The force number on this prop is 97, and the instructions suggest using it with a book test, but it is equally impressive to simply predict the two-digit number.
I use my own Number Choice prop in a three phase routine, a la Mental Epic. I let the spectator choose one of the five ESP symbols, then choose a color from the rainbow, and finally let them choose a "random" two-digit number using the Number Choice prop. If you are familiar with the Mental Epic method and routine, you will see how valuable this little Dial prop is -- it allows for the final selection to appear to be the most varied and difficult.
Supreme produced a small number of premium molded-plastic close-upmentalism items in the 1970s. These were sold in micro-runs through dealermailers and rarely appeared in catalogs. “Number Choice” is one of theleast-documented Supreme items and almost never appears for sale.
NOTE: the deck of cards shown in the photo is not included -- it is only shown so you can easily see the size of the Number Choice prop.
Collector Notes:This is a genuine Supreme mechanical force dial. My online searches found no current or old online listings,no catalog scans, or sale records. Apparently any surviving examples of this prop are scarce and coveted by their owners.
PLEASE NOTE: the prop dial does have one small blemish on one side, near the number 81 -- see the close-up photo. This small blemish does not effect the performance of the trick. Also note that the instruction sheet provided is a photocopy of the original instructions.
Because I could find no other references or listings to this prop, I will base my pricing on similar rare (and useful!) items from Supreme from that era. If you collect Supreme items, or you do close-up mental magic, this is a rare find that you will want to add to your collection and/or repertoire.CONDITION NOTES:previously owned, but in very good condition -- the dial is almost like new, but does have one small blemish on near the number 81 -- (see close-up photo). The original Supreme instruction sheet was not present, but I will supply a photocopy of the original sheet.
