Damage to sides. This exquisite vintage souvenir pillow cover features a striking embroidered design on dark green velvet. The central motif showcases a majestic eagle perched above crossed flags – the American flag on the left and the French Tricolor on the right. Below the flags, a banner proudly declares "SOUVENIR DE FRANCE" amidst olive branches, indicating its origin and purpose as a memento from France. The rich embroidery uses various shades of gold, cream, and muted reds/blues, creating a detailed and patriotic display. The square cover is elegantly finished with a decorative brown fringe border, adding to its classic appeal. Measuring approximately 17 inches by 17 inches including the fringe, this piece is a wonderful example of early 20th-century travel memorabilia, likely from the WWI or WWII era, commemorating the alliance between the United States and France. It's perfect for collectors of international souvenirs, military history, or vintage textiles. Please note the item shows age-appropriate wear, including some fading to the velvet and embroidery, and minor fraying consistent with its vintage nature, all adding to its authentic charm.
