These two original studio stamped photos are a historically significant pair oforiginal, vintage black-and-white photographs documenting the catastrophicaftermath of World War II in Cologne (Köln), Germany. These powerful imageswere captured by the renowned German documentary and "rubblephotographer" (Trümmerfotograf) Walter Dick immediately following thewar's conclusion in 1945.
Historical Significance & Views Included:
• Photograph 1 (Aerial/Bridge View): A dramatic high-angle viewshowing the collapsed spans of the historic Hohenzollern Bridge, which wasblown up by retreating German forces on March 6, 1945. The background revealsthe immense grid of destruction across the city center.
• Photo 2 (Rhine River View): Features a white passenger steamboatnavigating the Rhine River, juxtaposed against the heavily scarred but standingCologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) and the pulverized ruins of the old city.
Authenticity of photos noted on the back, noted in images uploaded.
Both prints are completely authentic, lifetime workingstudio prints. The reverse side of each photograph features:
• The official, vintage purple ink studio stamp of thephotographer: "WALTER DICK... KÖLN, Langgasse 17..."
• Original hand-penciled catalog/print numbers. Photograph 1 Negative # 198/8 and Photograph 2 Negative # 149/70• Vintage handwritten notation in English script reading:"Cologne right after the war."

Each print measures approximately 7" x 5"(Standard vintage press/documentary size).
Condition:
Please review the high-resolution scanscarefully before purchasing. Both photographs are in vintage condition withexpected silvering and minor edge wear consistent with 80-year-old historicpaper. Notably, both prints have a single distinct vertical crease through thecenter where they were once previously folded. These creases break the emulsionslightly but do not compromise the structural integrity or historical clarityof the images. They are being sold as-is, priced accordingly for theircondition, and make an incredible addition to any WWII history, militaria, orEuropean photography collection. These photos have been in my family since the war.Will be shipped securely in archival-safe sleeves and sandwichedbetween heavy cardboard to prevent any further bending or damage duringtransit.
