Offered is a lot of two vintage black-and-white photographic negatives depicting United Electric Railways (UER) double-truck line car No. 1512, formerly associated with the Providence & Danielson Electric Railway.
These two photographs show the historic wooden-bodied electric railway work car sitting out of service on an identified scrap line. One negative provides a side and three-quarter view of the car, partially surrounded by overgrown vegetation, while the second provides an excellent end view clearly showing the number 1512.
Historical Significance:
Car No. 1512 has an especially interesting history in Rhode Island electric railway operations.
Originally used as a funeral car on the Providence & Danielson Electric Railway, the car was subsequently employed as a combination car before being converted by United Electric Railways into a double-truck overhead line maintenance car.
In 1947, the car was acquired by the Branford Electric Railway Association, operators of what became the Shore Line Trolley Museum in Connecticut. It was renumbered as work car No. 04 and used in museum maintenance operations.
Despite its considerable historical importance, the car was eventually selected for scrapping. Historical accounts identify No. 1512 as the last surviving remnant of the Providence & Danielson Electric Railway.
