Vintage 1920s 1930s Man & Dog Portrait Convex Bubble Glass Wood Frame 11x17:
$95.00

Here's a really interesting old photograph we recently came across. This is a vintage photographic portrait showing a sharply dressed gentleman standing outdoors with a dog. One of the details that immediately caught our attention is what appears to be a holstered handgun hanging from his belt and another tucked into his belt. Possibly a Lawman with a tracking dog.The photograph is presented in an attractive arched wood frame with original convex "bubble" glass and its original rear backing. The curved glass gives the photograph considerably more depth than a typical flat-glass frame.Based on the clothing, hat, photographic appearance and overall presentation, we believe the photograph dates approximately to the 1920s–1930s.There is an interesting historical question surrounding the identity of the gentleman, but we have not been able to verify his identity from a caption, photographer's mark or other provenance. We are therefore selling this as an unidentified period photograph, rather than as an identified portrait of any particular historical figure. The combination of the well-dressed gentleman, dog, outdoor setting and apparent sidearm certainly makes this an unusual photograph. It has the look of something connected to the law-enforcement, hunting or sporting world of the period, although we cannot establish the exact circumstances in which the photograph was taken. The framed piece measures approximately 11 3/8" x 17 1/4" and weighs approximately 35 ounces. The photograph has considerable genuine age character. There is fading, toning, discoloration, spotting and surface wear throughout the image, including noticeable blue/green discoloration in portions of the foliage and grass. Despite the deterioration, the gentleman and dog remain clearly visible. The arched wood frame has plenty of age-related character, including scratches, scuffs and areas of finish loss. The convex/bubble glass appears intact. The original backing remains attached and shows substantial age, staining, wrinkling and deterioration.Convex or bubble-glass photographic frames are collectible in their own right, particularly examples retaining their original photographs and period construction. Comparable antique examples are currently being offered from roughly $75 to $190+, with larger or more ornate examples sometimes priced considerably higher. EtsyWhat makes this one different from an ordinary old family photograph is the unusual subject and presentation. A full-length period portrait of a gentleman outdoors with a dog and an apparent sidearm, housed behind original convex glass, is an interesting piece of vintage Americana. Please study all photographs carefully. They are part of the description and show the actual item you will receive. Please ask any questions before purchasing. Related Items:
