This vintage English ironstone double egg cup was made by the famous Adams China company (later a part of the Wedgwood Group) in their highly collectible "Carolynn" pattern. This style is known as a double egg cup. The larger top cup is meant for holding a soft-boiled egg in its shell (or chopped up), while flipping it over reveals a smaller cup on the base meant for a hard-boiled egg. The "Carolynn" pattern features a hand-painted style bird with yellow and brown feathers nestled beneath a vibrant cluster of purple, pink, and yellow wildflowers. It's made of sturdy English ironstone, heavily characterized by its signature subtle, pale Sage Green/Calyx background glaze rather than a stark white.
The base features a distinctive pink fish-scale or arched lattice design bordered by thin yellow and red hand-painted bands. This piece was manufactured in Staffordshire, England. Based on the pattern style and production history of Adams Calyx Ware, this piece dates back to the 1970s or 1980s, making it a wonderful example of retro British kitchenware.
