Vintage Children’s Bible League Works of Art Sales Kit Daleville Indiana w/ Box:
$149.99
Rare vintage Children’s Bible League “Works of Art” fundraising/sales set with its ORIGINAL CHILDREN’S BIBLE LEAGUE BOX.
This unusual set originated from the Children’s Bible League – Central Agency, Box 122, Daleville, Indiana – Phone 73.
The original printed box explains that boys and girls were given an assortment of these “Works of Art” to sell for 35¢ each in order to earn Bibles and Testaments. The reward program ranged from a Testament for selling one picture all the way to a “Zipper Bible” for selling all ten.
The box states:
“OUR AIM: Every Child with a Bible or Testament.”
It also explains that the pictures were regular 50¢ values and were being sold for 35¢ each.
Included are 5 vintage mounted color art prints, each presented in an attractive cream-colored textured paper/cardboard mat with gold Art Deco-style detailing.
Scenes include:
* Guardian angel protecting two children
* Open Bible, candle, American flag & stained glass religious scene
* Snow-covered village/moonlight winter scene
* Lighthouse & sailing ship seascape
* Mountain/lake/camping landscape
ORIGINAL BOX IS INCLUDED.
The box is particularly interesting because it documents exactly how these prints were originally distributed and sold by children as part of the Children’s Bible League fundraising/reward program.
I have been unable to locate another identical Children’s Bible League Daleville, Indiana art sales set with its original box.
AGE: Exact year is unknown. Based upon the style, construction, pricing, typography and especially the early “Phone 73” telephone notation, this appears to date from the early-to-mid 20th century. Please examine photos and make your own determination regarding age.
CONDITION:
Very good vintage condition overall considering the age and original intended use.
The mounted prints display beautifully with vivid colors. The mats show expected age-related discoloration, spotting, marks and general storage wear. Clear protective surfaces show some scratches/scuffs from age and handling.
Original cardboard sales box shows considerable age/storage wear including creases, edge/corner wear, small tears, discoloration and general aging, but remains intact and the original printed instructions are very legible.
PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS CAREFULLY — the photos are an important part of the description and show the exact set you will receive.
A fascinating and apparently scarce piece of American Christian/Bible outreach history. Excellent for collectors of vintage religious ephemera, Children’s Bible League memorabilia, Christian advertising/fundraising material, Sunday School history, Indiana memorabilia, antique religious art or early 20th-century paper collectibles.
