Up for Sale is a Vintage Connoisseur N.Y.C. Smoking Pipe! The Connoisseur pipes were a line of pipes designed by Ed Burak, who owned the Connoisseur Pipe shop in New York City for 40 years before retiring, and is widely regarded as the dean of American pipe designers. Known for their unique designs, many ahead of their time, these pipes have a dedicated fan base around the country who visited Ed in his store and loved the pipes and his tobacco blends!
Ed did not make the pipes, they were expertly crafted by two principal makers, Tony Pesante of NJ, and JoeCortegiano of NY. They also crafted pipes for Barclay Rex and the Wilke Pipe shop. Their influence and style can be seen in those pipes as well, and both were highly regarded for their excellent work!
This piece is a deep bent "Bent Dublin" shape. It is a group 6 sized pipe, and very well balanced and expertly shaped. It has a beautiful mixed grain of birds eye, cross grain and straight grain all around the bowl, and looks a bit Danish in design to me. Ed did not believe in fills, so some minor imperfections in the briar can be seen on his pipes. He certainly had an eye for designing beautiful pipes!
This pipe measure approx. 6" L x 2-1/4" H x 1-3/4" W and weighs 2 ounces. it is stamped simply "Connoisseur N.Y.C" and also bears the signature stamp "d Burak"
