This is a matching pair of vintage pinback buttons issued for the Florissant, Missouri Centennial celebration held June 16 through 22, 1957. These pins represent the two honorary societies often formed during mid-century town centennials: the Sisters of the Swish and the Brothers of the Brush. The first pin features the Sisters of the Swish logo with a woman in a period-style bonnet. The second pin is a rare Shavers Permit, which was traditionally purchased by men who chose not to grow a beard for the celebration, exempting them from the lighthearted kangaroo courts and mock fines often imposed by the Brothers of the Brush. The Shavers Permit pin depicts a man in a yellow flannel shirt holding a straight razor. Both pins measure 1.75 inches in diameter. They are constructed of printed metal shells with original pinback attachments. The graphics utilize a classic 1950s color palette of black, yellow, red, and blue against an off-white background. Both items are in good vintage condition. The front faces show clear, vibrant graphics with minimal surface wear. The reverse sides show natural age-related oxidation and foxing to the metal, confirming their mid-century authenticity.Florissant Missouri, Centennial Pins, 1957, Sisters of the Swish, Shavers Permit, Brothers of the Brush, Vintage Pinback Set, Mid Century Americana, Town History, Missouri Memorabilia, Celluloid Button, 100th AnniversaryFeel free to reach out if you have any questions!
