Vintage "Insect Control & Research Inc" Advertising match safe.Excellent quality example of an unusual solid cast brass head and wings and cast iron body advertising fly match safe. The cast iron body would typically double as a heat-resistant match striker.
This one is particularly interesting since it's an insect and comes from a pest control company in Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA. A fabulous collectable for folks who collect brass, cast iron, animal figures, and especially those who collect advertising pieces or tobacciana. The combination of a brass animal figure tobacco advertising match safe makes it very desirable and an amazing gift.
Hinge works well, legs and original fastener are all there. You'll notice the legs sit slightly askew which is the only imperfection. Nice handling patina, no signs of rust on the iron. Overall very nice.
This was made between 1946 and 1959 and imported from England by the US company, see the stamped mark.
