Vintage M.D. Pioneer Brass Lighter–William E. Davies W. VA. Cave Survey Gear:
$75.00
Original M.D. Pioneer brass petrol lighter, complete with its fuel reservoir insert, screw filler cap with retaining chain, and hinged brass outer case coated in chrome.. This is a mid‑20th‑century trench‑style lighter design known for durable construction and reliable field performance.. This lighter was carried for emergency use by William E. Davies during his cave‑survey work for the West Virginia Geological Survey in the late 1940's. These mid‑century field investigations formed the foundation of Davies’ landmark publication Caverns of West Virginia, one of the most significant speleological studies in the state’s history. Personal field gear associated with his early Geological Survey work is exceptionally scarce. This lighter comes directly from his retained equipment and represents a rare example of documented cave‑survey field use tied to a major scientific work. The two hinge case is 1 7/8 x 2 5/8 inhes. Ships carefully packaged via USPS Ground Advantage and International Shipping.
