OverviewA vintage empty wooden cigar box from Romeo y Julieta, made for the "Coronations de Luxe" size. The lid is branded with the oval Romeo y Julieta de Alvarez y Garcia, Habana seal, with "Seleccion Superva" across the top and "Seleccion Privada" down the sides, and "Coronations de Luxe" is printed on the front. The inside of the lid repeats the seal with "Coronations de Luxe" and "Seleccion Superva". The box has finger-jointed corners, a brass-tone latch on the front and two small hinges at the back, and the interior is plain unlined wood. It makes a good desk or keepsake box, or a piece for a cigar or tobacciana collection.
BackgroundRomeo y Julieta is a Havana cigar brand founded in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Manin Garcia, whose firm name, Alvarez y Garcia, appears in the seal. The base has an ink stamp reading "Claro", a cigar wrapper shade, along with pencil numbers and a pencil-drawn box with faint writing. There is no date on the box.
ConditionGood vintage condition. The box is empty and the lid closes with the latch. The printing on top is faded in places, and the lid and front have light scratches and small dents. The base is scuffed, with a worn patch at one corner, and there is a small white scuff inside the lid. Please see all photos.
