Shownhere is a hard to find Tom Howard tobacco pipe dating to around thelate 1930's to the 1940's. All Howard's pipes were hand-made in hisworkshop and each was individual. He was a fairly well known comedianand radio personality in 1940 and had a show called, “It Pays to beIgnorant.” He was a passionate pipe collector and a masterhobbyist. The work was all done at his home workshop in Red Bank, NewJersey. This pipe is an excellent and beautifully preserved exampleof his smooth-finished Rhodesian/Bulldog variant with a vulcanitestem and featuring his signature thick shank proportions. The pipe issigned by Howard in a distinctive cursive on the left side and on theright is stamped “Imported Briar.” This is a clean and handsomepipe with an interesting history and will serve you for many moreyears.
Total length is 5 ¼” Outside bowl dia. Is 2”. Bore dia.Is 1 1/16” and chamber depth is about 1 ¼”
