Vintage Youghiogheny & Ohio Coal Company Merchandise Punch Cards – Set of 3
Original vintage Youghiogheny & Ohio Coal Company merchandise/store punch cards, offered together as a set of three.
The three cards are marked:
The cards identify J. S. Braddock, Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania and include period wording such as:
“In Merchandise at Our Store”
“Not Transferable”
Each card contains a numbered grid designed to be punched as merchandise value was used. The surviving punch holes, handwriting and other period markings provide an interesting glimpse into historical company-store purchasing practices associated with the coal industry.
These are particularly interesting pieces of Pennsylvania industrial and coal-mining ephemera connected with the Youghiogheny & Ohio Coal Company.
CONDITION
These are original vintage pre-owned paper items showing substantial age and period use.
Condition varies among the three cards and includes punched holes, handwriting/notations, age toning and discoloration, creases and wrinkles, edge and corner wear, small tears/paper losses and general handling/storage wear.
The $3.00 card shows the heaviest wear and paper loss. The $4.00 and $5.00 cards are more complete but also show age and use.
All three have been left exactly as found. No attempt has been made to clean, flatten, erase, repair or restore them.
Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition, markings, punches and paper loss. The photographs show the actual three cards included in the sale and are an important part of the condition description.
An unusual group for collectors of coal-mining memorabilia, company-store material, mining/company scrip, Pennsylvania history, industrial and labor history, mercantile history and antique paper ephemera.
Sold together as a set of three and sold as pictured.
