Degenhart Art Glass was a company founded by Charles Degenhart in 1947 in Lincoln, New Hampshire, later moving to Ohio. They were known for producing a wide variety of glass animals and other decorative items, often in vibrant colors and unique glass formulations like custard glass, which has a distinctive milky, opalescent quality. Many of their pieces were also designed to glow under UV light, a feature that added to their appeal among collectors.
This particular "Pooch" figurine is a representative example of Degenhart's output, showcasing their skill in creating charming animal figures. The use of custard glass, combined with the stylized representation of a dog, makes it a recognizable piece within the Degenhart collector community. These figurines were often produced as limited editions or with specific mold numbers, adding to their collectibility.
