This is a beautiful intricately hand painted Vintage Russian Laquer Hinged Box w/ Fairy Tale Scene Signed by the artist (Avdeeva). The box is made from papier-mache and features a bright red interior. Each of these pieces takes months to construct and paint. The scene is of a Russian fairy tale about Morozko/Father Frost. It features scenes of a man in a sleigh being pulled by a horse and an old Russian village and buildings with steeples in the background. The box is larger in size measuring approximately 6 3/4" L by 4 3/4" W by 2 3/8" H. The box is in excellent condition with no visible cracks or crazing. There is a hinge holding the lid to the box. I need to mention that there is some movement in the hinge but no cracking around it in the mache. I'm sure this has come from age and use over time. There are no markings on the bottom. This is a fantastic example of Russian lacquer folk art. Beautiful collectible piece! Will be shipped USPS Ground Advantage.
