This rare pair of collar tabs is constructed of black wool with a buckram core, the obverse bearing a machine-embroidered off-white snarling wolf, unmarked, measuring 40 mm (w) x 52 mm (l), in very good condition. Was checked with black light lamp - thread and backing cloth does not glow, made from cotton.Historical background:The German elite foreign volunteer's unitOsttürkischer Waffen-Verband wasformed in late 1944, uniting Central Asian and Turkic volunteer battalions from earlier army legions. Led by Harun-el-Raschid Bey, these units fought in anti-partisan actions across Slovakia and Poland in the closing months of the Second World War.
To give the unit its own identity, manufacturer used design featuring a snarling wolf head. The wolf was chosen for its ancient significance in Turkic lore, replacing standard runes with a dedicated national insignia.
