For your consideration is this M1942 Spec P.Q.D. #197 EM Wool Service Coat.12th infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division • The M-1939 Base Pattern (QMC 8-31D): Introduced on February 7, 1940, this design retained the traditional external brass hooks stitched into the rear waistline. These loops were designed to support the heavy leather garrison belt.• The "1942 Modification" (PQD No. 197): Officially adopted on July 10, 1942, this updated directive completely eliminated the brass support hooks. Because leather garrison belts were being phased out of combat field layouts in favor of the specialized canvas M-1936 pistol belt, the Quartermaster Corps modified the pattern. This change allowed the coat to transition smoothly into its role as a clean dress and holiday uniform. The DUI pins shown in the image are the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) for the 12th Infantry Regiment—the exact same unit from our previous discussion.Known as the "Warrior Regiment," its unit crest features a silver Maltese cross superimposed over a red enamel field. The colors and design commemorate the regiment's historic participation in the Civil War, specifically its costly actions at the Battle of Gaines' Mill under the V Corps (whose symbol was a Maltese cross). When worn on the service coat or Ike jacket, these insignias are pinned directly onto the lapels to identify the soldier's specific regimental assignment. Related Items:
