Original WWII-era Waltham Watch Co. 8-day mechanical aircraft cockpit clock, Type A-11 / AN 5743 pattern, for the U.S. Army Air Forces.Square black case with corner mounting screws and a knurled brass wind/set knob at the lower left. Black dial with Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9, marked WALTHAM and 8 DAYS, with partial A.F. U.S. Army / Type lettering still visible. Rear cover is stamped with General Order, order number, manufacturer’s specification, and Waltham Watch Co., plus an ADJ rate-adjustment port. Numbers visible on the back include 24296, 18073, and 308A.
These 8-day panel clocks were standard timepieces in U.S. combat aircraft cockpits in WWII. The movement is a manually wound 8-day type and is independent of aircraft power.
