Manufacturing History
* Who made it: It was manufactured by the Wapak Hollow Ware Company.
* Where it was made: The foundry was located in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
* When it was made: This specific "Z-Logo" variation (named for the stylized, lightning-bolt slant slicing through the word "WAPAK") was produced between 1903 and 1926.
The Wapak Hollow Ware Company was founded and owned by five men:
Milton Bennett
Harry Bennett
Charles Stephenson
Marion Stephenson
S.P. Hick
The company operated in Wapakoneta, Ohio, from 1903 until it filed for bankruptcy and closed in 1926.
Why Are They Rare?
Wapak cookware is inherently scarce because the company was only in operation for roughly 23 years before going bankrupt in 1926. While their skillets are occasionally found, handled round griddles are far less common. Furthermore, Wapak was famous for a casting process that regularly left distinctive "character flaws" on the iron, such as surface swirls, sand pits, and rough handling marks. Finding a piece that managed to maintain a pristine cooking surface while sitting "rock solid flat" is a major anomaly, as thin vintage griddles easily warped on high-heat wood stoves.
