c1860s-70s CDV Boy Portrait Manchester Bros Providence RI Victorian Photo:
$24.95
Original 19th-century carte de visite / CDV portrait of an unidentified young boy, photographed by Manchester Bro’s / Manchester Bros. of 73 Westminster Street, Providence, Rhode Island.
This is a striking Victorian child portrait, showing the boy in a formal dark coat with broad lapels, high white collar, and necktie. His center-parted hair, serious expression, and slightly distant gaze give the image the strong emotional presence collectors look for in antique child photography. The close bust-length composition is simple but very effective, with the boy’s face sharply emphasized against a plain studio background.
The verso bears the printed Manchester Bro’s studio imprint, with the Providence address clearly visible. Manchester Brothers were among the important early photographic studios of Providence, Rhode Island, making this more desirable than an anonymous CDV. A strong example for collectors of early American photography, Victorian child portraits, Rhode Island history, Providence photographers, and 19th-century studio portraiture.
No written sitter identification is visible.
Condition
Original antique CDV in good overall condition for age. Image shows age toning, light surface wear, and typical softness/fading consistent with 19th-century albumen photography. Mount shows light handling wear, minor soiling, and rounded corners. Studio imprint on reverse remains clear and readable. Please review all photos for condition details.
