- The Technique: The figure is crafted using a dimensional, raised fabric technique. While it resembles the traditional Japanese craft of Oshie or Kurumie (where padded fabric shapes are wrapped over cardboard), this specific style, choice of materials, and frame styling are characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century Chinese tourist and export art. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- The Figure: The figure portrays an elderly figure in traditional patterned robes carrying a scroll or case. In Chinese art, elderly figures of this manner often represent historical scholars, respected ancestors, or Taoist Immortals associated with longevity, wisdom, and good fortune. [1, 2, 3]
- The Display: It features a red silk backing set deeply into a wooden frame under glass to create a distinctive shadow box effect, protecting the delicate elements from dust. [1, 2]
