Original collection of 27 mid-19th century New Hampshire voter checklists, dating primarily from the 1850s through 1870s and apparently associated with Marlow, New Hampshire. Years include: 1851, 1860-1872, 1876, 1880, 1882, and 1884. There are two copies of 1864 (including a nice one corrected the day before the presidential election), 1865, 1867, 1869, and 1880. There are three copies of 1868 and 1872. All copies are original period items, not later reproductions.
An interesting group of original local election and political ephemera recording the names of eligible voters during an important period in American history. Of particular interest is a checklist dated October 18, 1864 and corrected November 8th, produced during the Civil War and immediately preceding the 1864 presidential election between Abraham Lincoln and George B. McClellan. In additional relevance to the civil war theme, veteran Ezra G. Huntley’s name, of local fame, appears in the 1864 list.
The group provides an unusually substantial snapshot of the voting population of a small New Hampshire community across multiple elections and years and could be useful for local history, genealogy, political history, or Civil War-era research.
27 pieces total. Dates and formats vary. These are genuine period documents rather than later reproductions. Condition varies with age and includes expected folds, toning, edge wear, handling, and occasional staining or other defects. Please examine photographs carefully for individual condition and contents. Overall very good with strong rigid paper and no tears in the 5 I inspected.
