A rare early quarter plate daguerreotype and paper photograph of George Payn Quackenbos measuring approximately 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches in its original case measuring approximately 4 5/8 x 3 5/8 inches. The paper photograph does appear to be accurately dated as 1849. The photo was probably taken in New York city after he graduated from Columbia in 1843. There were a small amount of daguerreians in NYC at that time. A copy of a beautiful note by his wife Louisa Brodie Duncan Quackenbos (1825 - 1899) on the back of a CDV is attached as pictured and was included by a prior owner. They are buried together in Brooklyn at Green-Woods Cemetery. Law is noted as a photographer at that location in 1867/68. Perhaps the attached note is from the back of another photograph as the paper photograph is much earlier than the 1860s. I have not opened the item or removed it. Last origin southern NH.
