John F. Kennedy Handwritten Notes and Doodles as President on White House Paper:
$2000.00

35th President. Fantastic typed memorandum on White House stationery, listing the schedule for the “White House Regional Conferences”, undated but 1961, with JFK adding three lines of handwriting at bottom and multiple doodle boxes at top. JFK writes:

I meet with Scoop and Warren

Help Julia Hansen

The White House Regional Conferences were intended to bring the Federal Government closer to the people, and to stimulate an exchange of ideas that would help America move forward.

The memorandum lists “Seattle, Wash., Nov 20” as the final date listed. While Kennedy did not attend the actual Conference, he boosted its prominence as he spent a very full day in Seattle on November 16, 1961.

Air Force One arrived at Boeing Field in Seattle, Washington on November 16, 1961. Kennedy was met by several prominent Washington politicians at the airfield - including both of their Senators - Henry “Scoop” Jackson and Warren Magnuson.

Julia Hansen was a Washington politican - she was the second woman and first Democratic woman elected to Congress from Washington and presumably involved in the days activities.

JFK spoke at the University of Washington on November 16, 1961, giving an address at the University of Washington's 100th anniversary program that was held at the Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle, Washington, in front of 11,000 people. In his speech the President addressed the challenges of defending freedom and maintaining peace as a world power, especially concerning relations with the Soviet Union.

He also attended a dinner that evening celebrating the 25th anniversary of Senator Warren Magnuson in Congress. Magnuson, like Kennedy a Democrat, was elected to the House of Representatives in 1936.Research shows the night supposedly ended with some sordid encounters at JFK’s suite at the Olympic Hotel - but we will leave that to history!
