This is a listing for a Vintage GRACE LINES SS Santa Paula ceramic pottery dish. She was the last American built cruise ship out of Newport News and her Maiden Voyage was Oct 11, 1958. Her service started as voyages to and from South America and eventually serviced the Caribbean. On a return trip to the US, she aided in saving crew from the Norwegian tanker Stolt Dagali November 26, 1964 which had been rammed by the Zim Lines SS Shalom. She saved 25 from the tanker, though there was the loss of 19 lives and part of the tanker sank. She went on to be part of Prudential-Grace Line and put out of service in January of 1971. She was sold to Oceanic Sun Lines and became the Stella Solaris. Eventually she was sold to Kuwait as a floating hotel (Marriott) but set afire and destroyed. She was scraped on site in 2002.
